Farzi Makers Predicted Demonetization Before PM Modi's Announcement

The upcoming Shahid Kapoor and Vijay Sethupathi starrer "Farzi" is set to premiere on digital platforms next month. The film, which follows a con man printing counterfeit currency and a law enforcement agent trying to stop him, has an interesting connection to real life events. According to the film's makers, Raj & DK, they had written the script, which included the concept of demonetization, before the policy was actually announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016. The makers had initially written the idea as a way for the law enforcement agent to stop the counterfeiting, not realizing the term they used, "invalidate," would become a reality in the form of demonetization.
