The opening day of the first Test between India and Australia at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur saw India take control of the match. Rohit Sharma starred with an unbeaten 56, guiding India to 77 for 1 at the end of the day's play. He and KL Rahul opened the innings with a 76-run stand, before Rahul was dismissed for 20 by Todd Murphy.
India's bowlers were the standout performers, restricting Australia to just 177 runs. Ravindra Jadeja's five-wicket haul and Ravichandran Ashwin's three wickets were instrumental in limiting the visitors. The Indian pacers, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, also made a dream start by reducing Australia to 2 for 2 in just 2.1 overs. Marnus Labuschagne was the top scorer for Australia with 49 runs.
