Rohit Sharma starred with an unbeaten 56, guiding India to 77 for 1 at the end of the day's play. He and KL Rahul opened the innings with a 76-run stand, before Rahul was dismissed for 20 by Todd Murphy.

India's bowlers were the standout performers, restricting Australia to just 177 runs. Ravindra Jadeja's five-wicket haul and Ravichandran Ashwin's three wickets were instrumental in limiting the visitors. The Indian pacers, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, also made a dream start by reducing Australia to 2 for 2 in just 2.1 overs. Marnus Labuschagne was the top scorer for Australia with 49 runs.
